DRBY 8th Annual Spring Conference

Since 1999 DRBY has held annual three-day conferences in which young people come together with monastics and experienced lay cultivators to learn about Buddhism, discuss methods of practice, and experience life in a monastery. The 2006 Conference will sponsor workshops on Buddhist practices, Buddhist sutras, and the perspective on modern issues. Topics include “Buddhism Decoded,” “Socially Engaged Buddhism,” “Stress Management,” and “Careers for Practicing Buddhists.” For more information, please go to www.drby.net/conf06.

Avatamsaka Summer Session

City of Ten Thousand Buddhas, Ukiah, CA

Dharma Realm Buddhist University will be holding a six-week summer session on the “Entering the Dharma Realm” chapter of the Avatamsaka Sutra. In this Sutra, the Buddha tells an epic narrative about a young boy who goes on a pilgrimage to fifty-three teachers. Integrating Sutra study with hands-on practice, the daily schedule includes lectures, discussions, meditation, exercises, and ceremonies with the monastic community. Surangama Sutra Session

Gold Coast Dharma Realm, Gold Coast, Australia

The Gold Coast Dharma Realm in Gold Coast, Australia will be hosting a four-month sutra session on one of the most essential text of Mahayana Buddhism, the Surangama Sutra. In this sutra, the Buddha gives detailed descriptions of the fundamental nature of reality, the deepest levels of the mind, the origins of the universe, and practical ways to apply this knowledge to one’s personal quest for awakening. The retreat schedule includes three meditation periods, exercise, work period, vegetarian meals, lectures, review classes, and special events.
