The 2nd Annual DRBY Canada Conference

Reaching Beyond Borders
--a report on the Canada Conference by Paul Lin

In 2001, a group of newly formed Dharma Realm Buddhist Youths from Vancouver attended the third annual DRBY Spring Conference at the City of Dharma Realm, in Sacramento, California. Deeply moved by the profound Dharma and inspired by the dynamic group of peers who share similar passions for seeking spiritual growth, they determined to make this unconventional way of approaching Buddhism available to the young people in Canada.

Buddhism Decoded
--an excerpt from the opening lecture at the 2nd Canada Conference
by Dr. Martin Verhoeven

Let me start first off by saying it is my own personal reflection that it isn’t Buddhism that needs to be decoded, it’s the other way around: it is the world that needs to be decoded. Why? Because the world as it presents itself to us doesn’t make a great deal of sense, unless you have insights that I don’t have. Have any of you had this feeling or know what I’m talking about?

Thoughts on the DRBY Vancouver Conference
--a reflection by Stephanie See

Many topics were covered during the conference though I did not have the chance to attend all of the workshops. One thing that I learned from the conference was “self-reflection.”

Seattle Soup Kitchen
--a reflection by Woo Lai Kuan

I would like to share the story of the “Seattle Soup Kitchen,” which was spoken by Dharma Master Heng Chih at the second Dharma Realm Buddhist Youth (DRBY) Conference at Gold Buddha Monastery in Vancouver, Canada, held on July 1st -2nd, 2005.
